Mazaki Naoki White #2 Steel Mirror Finish Bullnose Series Gyuto
Experience the master craftsmanship of Mazaki Naoki. The "White #2 Bullnose Gyuto" combines performance and aesthetics into a premium culinary tool!
Naoki Mazaki was born in Hokkaido, Japan, and did not come from a traditional bladesmithing family.
In his younger years, he traveled across Japan by motorcycle. During one of those journeys, he arrived in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture, where he became deeply fascinated by the region’s rich blacksmithing heritage. Inspired by the craftsmanship and culture he encountered there, he decided to pursue the path of knife making.
Around 2011, Mazaki began his apprenticeship at the renowned Yoshikane Hamono in Sanjo, studying under master smith Tsuneo Yoshida. During his approximately six years at Yoshikane, he gained extensive experience in forging, heat treatment, grinding, and sharpening.
In 2017, he established his own workshop, Mazaki Hamono, becoming one of the few modern Japanese knife makers committed to a true one-man production approach.
Unlike many contemporary knife manufacturers that divide production among multiple specialists, Naoki Mazaki personally performs every stage of the process—from forging and heat treatment to grinding, sharpening, and final finishing. This dedication preserves the spirit of traditional Japanese craftsmanship while ensuring remarkable consistency throughout his work.
Mazaki is best known for his knives forged from Shirogami and Aogami steels, with his Shirogami #2 San-Mai series being among his most recognized and sought-after creations.
One of the defining characteristics of Mazaki knives is their distinctive geometry: a robust heel section, pronounced distal taper, and carefully executed convex grind. This combination creates a blade that feels powerful and stable near the handle while remaining agile and precise toward the tip, delivering a cutting experience that is both authoritative and exceptionally smooth.
In recent years, Naoki Mazaki has earned a strong international reputation among collectors, enthusiasts, and professional chefs. Thanks to his exceptional forging skills, distinctive personal style, and limited production output, he is widely regarded as one of the most respected and highly sought-after craftsmen of the new generation of Japanese bladesmiths.
