Takada no Hamono

Takada no Hamono

🔪 Takada no Hamono |
Ginsan (Silver #3 Steel) | Wa-Gyuto 240mm
Blacksmith: Nakagawa Hamono
Sharpener: Mitsuaki Takada
This knife is currently not in stock, and we are unable to accept orders for it.
To be honest, I don't even know what the current selling price would be anymore. 🤣
I simply came across some old photos of this knife and thought it still looked beautiful, so I decided to share them as a record of a past piece.
As for when we'll be able to take orders again...
That's something I'd really love to know myself. 🥲
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
✨ Knife Highlights
✔ Ginsan (Silver #3 Steel)
✔ Forged by Nakagawa Hamono
✔ Sharpened by Mitsuaki Takada
✔ Wa-Gyuto 240mm
✔ Ho Wood Handle × Black Buffalo Horn Ferrule
✔ Made in Sakai, Osaka, Japan
Nothing particularly complicated about this configuration.
But what truly makes Takada no Hamono knives recognizable has never been elaborate decorations.
It's the blade profile, sharpening, and overall quality of craftsmanship that give these knives their distinctive character.

🔪 Takada no Hamono |
What has always impressed me most about Mitsuaki Takada's work is his sharpening craftsmanship.
Rather than relying on elaborate decorations to attract attention, his knives develop a highly recognizable personal style through their blade profiles, surface finishing, and overall proportions.
This 240mm Wa-Gyuto is no exception.
With an actual edge length of approximately 230mm, a blade height of around 4.9cm, and a total weight of approximately 155g including the handle, it is a remarkably lightweight 240mm Wa-Gyuto based on its specifications.
Paired with a simple Ho Wood and Black Buffalo Horn handle, the visual focus remains entirely on the blade itself.

🧪 Ginsan | Silver #3 Steel
Ginsan is one of the well-known high-carbon stainless steels used in Japanese kitchen knives.
It offers a practical balance of fine edge formation, sharpening performance, and ease of everyday maintenance.
For those who appreciate Japanese kitchen knives but prefer not to spend too much time dealing with the rust and corrosion concerns associated with traditional carbon steel, Ginsan is a popular choice.
Of course, the steel itself is important in knives like this.
But what truly transforms it into a recognizable Takada no Hamono knife is the final sharpening and overall blade profile.

This post really isn't meant to sell anything. 🤣
Because right now:
❌ Not in stock
❌ Unable to accept orders
❌ Unable to confirm the current price
❌ No idea when we'll be able to take orders again
I simply thought it would be a shame not to share these old photos.
So I decided to keep a record here.
And, while I'm at it, provide a little proof that...
Yes, we really did manage to get our hands on one of these knives before! 🤣🤣
Hopefully, one day I'll finally be able to change the hashtag in this post from:
"#NoIdeaWhenWeCanTakeOrdersAgain"
to:
"#FinallyTakingOrdersAgain" 🥲
