    Based in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture, Nigara Hamono is a legendary name in Japanese knife-making. With over 350 years of tradition, the workshop traces its roots back to the Edo period, crafting swords for the Tsugaru clan.

  • Renowned Artisans and Modern Innovation:

    • Hiro Nigara (Kunikiyo): A celebrated craftsman whose work in forging Japanese swords is designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Aomori Prefecture.
    • Trained in metallurgy at Tohoku University, he incorporated modern techniques into traditional forging, earning numerous awards and accolades.
    • The workshop is now led by the 7th-generation head, Yoshizawa Toshihisa, and the 8th-generation successor, Yoshizawa Takeshi.
