Japanese forged blades have held special significance throughout history. Known as the soul of the samurai, swords were regarded as symbols of spiritual protection and offerings to the gods. The art of forging steel blades was considered sacred, and even today, many craftsmen dedicate themselves to this traditional craft.
Sakai has been a pivotal region in Japan’s blade-making history. Forging techniques date back to the 5th century, and by the Edo period, the shogunate officially recognized the sharpness of Sakai blades, granting them the "Sakai Kiwame" mark. In 1982, "Sakai Forged Blades" were designated as a Traditional Craft by the Japanese Government, widely acknowledged for their superior quality and craftsmanship.
Within this legacy, Kawamura Hamono was founded in 1926 (Taisho 15) in the heart of Sakai’s historic district. For nearly a century, we have upheld a commitment to honesty and excellence, crafting blades that meet the strictest standards of quality. The Sakai Kikumori inscription is a symbol of trust and master craftsmanship, ensuring knives that deliver unparalleled sharpness, durability, and cutting performance.
