Located in Hirosaki, Aomori, Nigara Hamono is one of Japan’s most esteemed blacksmith families. With over 350 years of forging tradition since the Edo period, their blades carry both samurai spirit and modern precision.
During the Meiji and Showa eras, Nigara evolved through industrial reform and modernization. Today, they are known globally for their dedication to artful yet practical craftsmanship.
6th-generation smith Kuni Hiro Nigara (title: Kokuten) was a master of Japanese swords and metallurgy, having studied under Prof. Kōtarō Honda at Tohoku University.
The legacy continues through the 7th-generation president Yoshizawa Toshihisa, and now 8th-generation Yoshizawa Tsuyoshi, who lead the company into the modern era of knife making.
The “Anmon” Damascus pattern is inspired by Anmon Falls, a mystical waterfall in the World Heritage site of Shirakami-Sanchi, Aomori.
Surrounded by rugged cliffs and lush beech forests, the rippling waves of the falls are echoed in each blade’s layered Damascus texture.
🔹 Created using 25 layers of steel and iron, forged with special acid-etched black treatment, every pattern is completely one-of-a-kind.
It’s not just a knife — it’s steel that reflects the beauty of nature.
