🌊 何謂“暗紋”? Nigara’s Signature "Anmon" Pattern

🏮 About Nigara Hamono

Located in Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture, Nigara Hamono is one of Japan’s most historic and respected blacksmith houses,
with over 350 years of tradition dating back to the Edo era, originally forging blades for the Tsugaru Clan.

Their reputation continued through the Meiji and Showa periods, adapting to modern steelwork while preserving traditional craftsmanship,
earning recognition as a designated traditional craft establishment.

👑 Legacy of Excellence

6th-generation blacksmith Kuni Hiro Nigara (title: Kokuten) was known for masterfully forging Japanese swords.
A graduate of Tohoku University’s Institute for Materials Research, he studied under Professor Kotaro Honda and applied scientific metallurgy to traditional forging.

His techniques are now carried on by 7th-generation Yoshizawa Toshihisa and 8th-generation Yoshizawa Tsuyoshi, continuing Nigara’s legacy into the modern culinary world.

🌊 What is "Anmon"?

Inspired by the Anmon Falls in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Shirakami-Sanchi, this pattern captures the mystical ripples of the waterfall’s flow.

🔹 Forged with 25 layers of steel and iron, acid-etched with a special black treatment to create unique, flowing wave patterns.
🔹 Each blade is hand-forged and one-of-a-kind, mirroring the natural beauty of cascading water—rendered in steel.

💬 Nigara aims to express the beauty of nature through the contrasting medium of forged steel.
