Founder of Ikeda Tanrenjo, a forge that blends tradition with innovation, Yoshikazu Ikeda began his blacksmithing journey in 1967 under the tutelage of his father, Kameo Ikeda (2nd generation). His elder brother Tatsuo Ikeda continued as the 3rd generation.

In 1983, Ikeda-san established his own workshop and has since been committed to mastering Japan's traditional knife-making techniques. His renowned “Sakai Hokushin” series includes highly advanced works such as honyaki, mizuhonyaki (water-quenched honyaki), and ink-wave patterns.

🗣 Craftsman Quote:

"I started forging blades in 1967 and founded Ikeda Tanrenjo in 1983.
Since then, I’ve been committed to passing down Sakai’s traditional forging techniques, specializing in honyaki and mizuhonyaki blades.
In 1988, I was certified as a Traditional Craftsman and served as president of the Sakai Cutlery Craftsmen’s Association, dedicating my career to promoting Japanese craftsmanship."

📌 Note: Ikeda-san has now retired from public activity and stepped down from his association roles.
