🔍 Brand Background|Yamawaki Cutlery – Goyūma Yoshiro
📜 Legacy of Legendary Blades × Artisan Spirit
The name Goyūma Yoshiro originates from one of the “Three Great Swords” of Japan, alongside Masamune and Yoshimitsu. In the Muromachi period, it was said that a feudal lord could not claim prestige without owning one of these revered blades.
🧱 The swordsmith Masakuni, from the late Edo period, inherited the Goyūma spirit. Legend has it that he dreamed of three turtles transforming into cranes flying toward the Hokuriku region — a revelation that inspired his path. He adopted the Goyūma Yoshiro name and passed the craft through a single lineage, which today is embodied by Yamawaki Cutlery.
⚒️ In 1950 (Showa 25), the third-generation smith Yamawaki Hirotsugu officially registered “Goyūma Yoshiro” as a brand — a legacy still alive today.
