Nagura stones are an essential auxiliary tool used during the sharpening process.
They serve two primary functions:
1️⃣ Slurry Generation (Before Sharpening)
Before sharpening, lightly rub the nagura stone on the surface of your main whetstone.
This quickly produces slurry, enhancing sharpening consistency, control, and feel.
The fine abrasive mud helps distribute pressure evenly along the edge, resulting in smoother, more refined sharpening.
2️⃣ Cleaning & Surface Refreshing (After Sharpening)
After use, the nagura can remove metal swarf, oil residue, and minor glazing from the whetstone surface.
This restores flatness and reactivates the stone, extending its lifespan.
