Sakai lineage: Iron forging reached Sakai in the Kofun period and evolved through Heian, Muromachi, and Edo eras, giving rise to specialized culinary knives such as the deba.
The “Three Great Blades” (Kyōhō Meibutsu-chō): Masamune, Yoshimitsu, and Gōyuuma no Jō Yoshihiro—names synonymous with top-tier craftsmanship.
The legend of Masakuni: Pursuing the Yoshihiro style, he devoted himself fully to forging after a revelatory dream, ultimately adopting the name Gōyuuma no Jō Yoshihiro—a title passed down exclusively within this lineage.
Modern era: In 1950, the third generation officially registered Gōyuuma no Jō Yoshihiro as the representative brand of Yamawaki Hamono, continuing to this day.
